This is the latest report from the island.

Mexican newspaper Por Esto! reported this week that a new 'master plan' has been developed to make Chankanaab Park even better, with a timetable to re-open by February.

The Park, one of Cozumel's favourite attractions, had hoped to re-open sooner but suffered considerable damage from Wilma, particularly to buildings.

Aurelio Joaquín González, the Director of Cozumel's Parks and Museums Foundation, said they are taking the opportunity to give the natural landmark a new face. The Park's adviser and architect, Juan González Angulo, added "today's visitors are very different to those that came to Cozumel in 1982 when the Park opened".

We were in Cozumel on Thursday of last week. The park was not opened yet, but we passed by in a taxi ride to playa mia beach. From the road it looked as though there was considerable damage. But the whole place is still under alot of construction from the hurricane. Best way to get there is by cab. They are lined up at the port and will take you directly there for a flat fee. Our trip to playa mia one way was $15, so I would assume it would be in that area. hope this helps/

That should be per cab, not per person.

I paid $16 pp, but that included the park admission. I think it was $4pp for the cab and $12 each for the park...
