Hi All--I'm new to cruising and new to this board too. My husband and I are cruising on the Imagination in late April, and we are stopping in Grand Cayman. Is there a better time of day to do a snorkeling excursion? We can do 8:45, 11am, or 1pm. I'm mostly thinking about water temp. and trying to fit in a little shopping as well.
Water temp is fairly constant. I like morning because I do not use ship's excursions and I want that extra time in case of emergency to not miss my ship. Captain Marvins or Moby Dick or Shoretrips.com will all give you a MUCH smaller group and more personal tour. Our ship's tour (many years ago before we knew we had options) had over 100 people on it. Yuck!
Shopping on Cayman will be expensive. Mostly watches, jewelry, and usual tourist stuff like T-shirts and sunglasses. We liked this better in the afternoon when a lot of people had already done their flurry of checking out the island and returned to shore.

I don't think there will be any difference in the water temp. If you want shopping time take one of the earlier times.
All the shops you will want to go to are right by the pier. Cayman is a tender port so you will not be able to just get on and off the ship as easily as other ports.
Hi AmyM303, welcome to Cruise-Chat. I prefer morning for snorkeling because the water is usually clearer. It hasn't had time for the wind to whip up the waves which stirs up the sand. That's just me. Hope you have a marvelous cruise, and once again welcome aboard!
