I was wondering if anyone has rented a car in Cozumel lately? Did you enjoy it and was it worth it? I am visiting Cozumel in September.

Yes.
Enjoyed it completely.
Definitely well worth it.
Have been renting in Cozumel for 20 years.
Never had a problem.
It's the way to go.
IMO.

Yes we have rented a jeep twice and a van once while in Cozumel. Just check the prices, some are very competitive and some are not. Usually at all the ports there are rental agencies close by. Just be cautious while driving in the downtown area as there are a lot of one way roads and lots of pedestrians on the streets.

We have rented a jeep for all day for as little as 90.00 for the day, plus the insurance and gas.

Have fun, you can not get lost, there is only one road that goes around the island, and most agencies will give you a map and show you how to get back to the port.

We have never rented a car at cozumel but we have in Playa Mya. I loved renting the car. But they drive like traffic laws are only a suggestion. Read up on the laws before you go. Even tho the people and taxi drivers seem to make up the road laws as they go... you need to follow them, dont do as they do. You are a foreigner in their land.

We did this the last time we were in cozumel. We rented from executive but there were a bunch of other places there. Rented a jeep for about $90.00 including gas and insurance and it was awesome. Planning on doing it again in october. there are four people in our party and we are going to split it four ways.

I have rented cars and jeeps in Cozumel. If you book online you will get a better rate. Worst rate is booking with one of the pushy guys carrying a clipboard who will 'greet' you as soon as you walk through the port terminal. They charge about twice what you can get online or at the airport. I recently used Dollar both in Cozumel and Grand Cayman. You pick up the car in San Miguel [the downtown area] so you will have to take the cab if you dock at the newer dock, about $5. Then just a short walk. Drive the entire island in an afternoon. We take our snorkel gear, towels; then hit each bar and beach as we circumnavigate the island. Favorite spot is the most remote and past Palancar--you will see large gila monsters sunning on the rocks. Beautiful black lizards with yellow or salmon colored scales. So primitive looking. BTW renting a car or taking a cab is the only way to get to the other 'pretty' side of the island. Be careful of the undertow, it can get strong in less than one foot and I am a strong swimmer.
