Has anyone ever been to the Bacardi rum factory in the Bahamas? How much would a taxi/bus cost from the cruise port to the factory? (it looks like it's on the opposite end of the island!)
Bacardi is distilled in Puerto Rico. Maybe there is another distillery you are thinking of?
In San Juan it is about a 30 minute taxi ride, well worth the trip. The smell of fermenting sugar cane is intoxicating in itself. I believe that it can be found as an excursion on most cruise lines.
Yes, there is another distillery in Nassau. However it is at the opposite end of the island from where the cruise ship docks and I would bet a taxi fare would cost alot!

Take the bus/transit system, its only about a quarter, seriously.
Hi! We asked about touring the Bacardi factory in Nassau when we were there in 2002. The staff at Sandals told us that the distillery was in an area of the island that they wouldn't even feel safe in...so needless to say...we didn't go either. I guess San Juan is the best bet for a Bacardi tour.
One of the most enjoyable times we had in Nassau was not on a cruise but at an all-inclusive at Radison Cable Beach. They have a huge inter-connected pool system, a swim-up bar and pretty good food. I had stewed goat, peas & rice, fish and grits, classic Bahamian food. They also have their own golf course.
I find that the most interesting thing in Nassau are the people. They are really nice, not overly warm but very polite. Public transportation is pretty good and staying with a tour is probably the best option to keep out of trouble.
Bacardi in San Juan is an awesome tour. It is not just a wall of pictures, a movie and drinks. They take you into the warehouse and distillery and of course the rum is incredible. Especially the anejo and 151.
