We are doing some repairs on our home and my wife needs some dental work so it will be a while before our next cruise. I'm working extra hours to pay for everything. So when I'm done, I'm thinking of taking a Caribbean cruise for 8-10 days on one of the really nice boats...not that Carnival isn't nice. But I'm thinking of one of the REALLY topclass boats. Aside from Cozumel which we love, where is the best place to go? Costa Maya was crap, Belize was ok, Santo Tomas was fair, St Marten and St Thomas were ok....what else? I value all of your opinions.

Aside from Cozumel, I absolutely love Grand Cayman. Can't wait to get back again.

I agree with A'ndrea, we love Grand Cayman too. Only been twice and thinking of going for a entire week. One day stop on a cruise ship is just not enough.

Dominica, Grenada, Tortola, Bonaire (for snorkeling only-not much to see), and Barbados. I also enjoyed St. Vincent. Hope all goes well for you and wife! Best wishes.

Other than Cozumel (where I have destroyed many brains cells and probably my liver), I still really enjoy going to St. Lucia. Beautiful tropical beaches and very nice locals.

The southern caribbean intineraries out of San Juan have been my favorite. Barbados, Martinique, Aruba, Curacao, St Maarten & St Thomas etc.. I feel are better ports than the western itineraries have to offer. Our next "major" cruise will be the Meditteranean, probably next year. I have heard awesome reports on the Meditteranean cruises out of Barcelona.

If at all possible, try to get an itenerary that takes you to Santorini, Greece. Bar none, my favorite port of all.

I'd go on a 10 day S. Caribbean. Penny is booked on the Emerald Princess. We went on this trip on the Sun Princess last Nov. and it was just awesome! The Emerald is a newer, larger ship. The Sun was an older ship and the Emerald has replaced the Sun. It went to St. Lucia, Grenada, Martinique, Antigua and St. Thomas and of course Princess Cay. Grenada was out of this world! Loved Mourne Rouge Beach on our Snorkel& Beach Catarmaran Sail, (reccommended by Penny, thanks again Penny!) St. Lucia was surreal, loved all the scenery. Antigua has some awesome beaches. Martinique was somewhat dissapointing for us but others had a great time there. Check out the Emerald ininerary I think they have 2 different ones, both leaving from Ft. Lauderdale. We found that this is one of the best deals available for a longer cruise and the ports are great. I know the rates went up just a little, but on the Sun we only spent about $1,300 for a balcony room. Not sure if you'd consider the Emerald to be high end, but most new ships are great and the anytime dining is just awesome. Read the reviews and google for pictures, it looks very nice. I think I recall that one of the two intineraries on this ship goes to Barbados, which is another of our favorites. If you're beach people I'd avoid Dominica all the sand there is black.

Last year we cruised the Galapagos Islands for a week. We went with a tour group, on a small boat, 16 people total, including crew. Anyways, saw the Celebrity Xpedition while we were there. The galapagos islands were awesome. It is an active cruise, up early 6am, hiking all over the islands. We sailed from island to island, and went to the Darwin Center. I believe the price of the Xpedition includes all the excursion, but don't quote me. Airfare will kill you, but what a reward waits for you. Lil' Lori

It just dawned on my, this is in the "Caribbean Port" thread. You probably meant Caribbean ports. Oh well, the "Best Ports" through me off. Just wanted to give my thoughts. Lil' Lori
