We would like to take our granddaughter for the dolphin encounter at Blue Lagoon off Nassau. My question is...If we book the excursion through Carnival, would that include all connections from the ship to Blue Lagoon or would I have to find my own transportation from the ship to the ferry that goes to Blue Lagoon? Thanks, Papa

The ship's excursion will include all transportation.

Thanks Dave...I can get the excursion for less money directly from Blue Lagoon, but I would have to find my own transporttation to the ferry and back. Booking through the ship seems to make the most sense here.

Another thing is getting through the Nassau terminal to get a taxi. It is a hassle!

Braid your hair man? Buy T-shirt? Always like to traverse that terminal in the care of a tour operator or cruise line personnel.

Nassau is still not as bad as Jamaica.

Really?? Jamaica mon! That was going to be a stop on my next cruise. Whats the deal there?

Dwayne 12-31-2008 07:35 PM

papa, If you have been through the terminal and know your goal is (a taxi to the ferry terminal) it isn't that bad. It's the people trying to sell tours etc. Then there's the herding of passengers to fill the taxi vans. If I could save quite a bit of money I would do it. The taxi ride over isn't very expensive, it's basically through a few blocks in town and over the bridge. I know what to expect though. Whatever you decide, Do Not Take The Water Taxi Over!

The water taxi is a disaster waiting to happen.

The deal with Jamaica: Third world country that has more than 30% unemployment. You will be harassed to buy EVERYTHING. The people are good natured there and not put out if you say no thank you, it just gets very tiring. Cruise passengers are their only chance to make $$ and you can't blame them, it just gets to be too much.

By all means go to Jamaica. It is beautiful and I love it--just remember the whole concept of one of the poorest nations in the world. Do not go off by yourself. Do not take a chance of missing the ship. Don't carry a lot of cash or jewelry off the ship. We use ship's tours in Jamaica. last year we arrived at the ship at 5:29 for a 5:30 sailing (after nearing running down some pedestrians and suffering through a ride that brought us 6" off our seats--and this was a ship sponsored tour). Hate to think what would have happened if we had ventured on our own!

It is not much of an exaggeration to say avoiding the hassling in Jamaica is like running through a thunderstorm trying to avoid the rain drops. At least the police have managed to push back most of it from the immediate pier area in Ocho and at Mo Bay.

The water taxi in Nassau is a mess. The only water taxi we've ever thought was worthwhile is in St. Maarten. It is also well maintained and managed.
