How far from port to Bacardi tour San Juan?

Hello again,

what a valuable tool this site has been for our upcoming cruise. Could someone tell me how far the Bacardi Tour is from the port in San Juan...I did read that is quite a distance? Also how long is the tour and what is the charge for admission? Is it a good tour? Hubby loves his Bacardi rum so thought it would be interesting for him to see.

Actually the tour at Bacardi is no charge. If you are the type who likes to ventrue on your own then you can get there for around $5.00 per person.

My husband and I took the Ferry across the water way to Catano. Cost .50/pp each way. The ferry ride is approximately 10-15 minutes. Once there we caught a taxi for $2.00/pp to the Rum Factory. The Rum Factory tour can take a couple of hours, depending on how long you stay there, it is a self directed tour with a telephone and headset type thing to direct you around. You also will be given 2 tickets for free rum drinks when you arrive. After the tour, there are Taxi's waiting there, again $2.00/pp back to the ferry terminal and $.50/pp to return to San Juan.

Was one of the best self tours we have taken, of course we are advernturesome and do try things on our own. We actually had a local waitress from Sr. Frogs tell us how to take the tour.

The ships tour is by bus and is usually around $30.00 per person to get the tour.

Thought maybe we could fit in the tour before our flight home? We are light packers so we were thinking about just putting everything is one luggage and possibly do the tour before heading to the airport. Any idea how far it is from the tour to the airport? We have 8+ hours to pass before our flight so thought about taking the tour.

Let's see....for us that would be a choice of $15 for three or $90. I'm going to remember this tip, Carol. A $75 saving is not to be laughed at!

We went on the Bacardi tour from NCL's Jewel last March and it seemed like it was only 10-15 mins from the port. Just my opinion but I thought the tour was pretty lame. You spend the the bulk of your time in a couple of rooms made up to look like what the inner workings of the rum plant are and never really see any of the plant. You do get 2 free drinks and the rest of your time is spent in the gift shop. I would not recommend this tour.

I guess that would depend on what you are looking for in a tour. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour. My husband is a Bacardi drinker, and it was interesting to find out the history of the factory and how it ended up in San Juan, considering it started in Cuba. We spent probably 2 hours or more taking the tour. As I stated it is self paced tour and you can take as much time or as little time taking the tour. We actually went through every part of the tour and listened to the entire history of the factory. But, its each to his own. I would highly recommend it, since it is a very non strenous tour and very informative with history and facts.

You got that right Dave, it was one of the best self tours we have ever done. Major savings, and you feel like part of the locals while riding the ferry. Anyone who is not afraid to venture out on their own will have a blast. And the savings is nothing to sneeze at.
