Panama Canal Question

We will be on the Jewel of the Seas in January. My understanding is that the ship will go through the Gatun Locks, turn around, and head back to Cristobal. Any excursions will end in Cristobal where we will reboard the ship.

OK, here is my question. We have purchased an excursion called "Chargres River Adventure & Eco Walk". Has anyone done this excursion?

Another question--By taking an excursion, and not staying on the ship, will we be missing part of the Panama Canal experience? In your opinions, would we be better off to sit on our balcony and not take an excursion?

I hope I haven't confused everyone with this last question!

Nadine, since the ship turns around and goes back down the same locks, you would not be missing anything. Of course if you stay on your balcony you will only see one side of the operation (unless your cabin is on the stern); Our member RichC just made a similar cruise and he suggested it was better to stay up on deck so you can move around and see all the sights.

Thank you! Now that you mention it, I remember RichC saying that. I did do a "find" for the Canal, but there were so many entries that I didn't know where to start!
