We will have a day in St Maarten and wld appreciate any ideas of things to do, i.e. great beaches, quaint beach clubs, other activities and places to visit, etc.

Thank you

we went to Little Divi Beach it is a nice beach with bar on a respectable french resort. Cheaper to do on your own with cab from pier much cheaper than the excursion rate....excursion included a drink and buffet lunch at the resort, but if your wise you can buy your own drinks at the beach bar $6-$10 and skip the lunch by bringing a soft sided cooler and ziplocks...just order a sandwich from room service before you leave and take it with you

I, too, agree that Little Divi Beach is an excellent choice. We were in St. Maarten in September 2006. We used Joyce Prince Tours and she comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. She took a small group of us around the entire island, stopping whereever we wanted to do whatever, be it picture spots or shopping. She is very knowledgeable and very informative. She will be happy to make Divi Beach a last stop for you since it is closer to the cruise ships. Any questions, just ask. I am not a solicitor, just a happy customer.

On the French side there is a great restaurant/marina called Captain Oliver's. The restaurant overlooks the marina and there is a swimming pool with glass wall that overlooks the restaurant...guests are welcome to swim. the grouper sandwiches are especially good and the place has never been crowded when we were there. Also recommend Bikini Beach section of Orient Beach, far left side. The 2-man band there plays great oldies and the atmosphere is great there. Margot is overrated...pass it by and spend extra time in Phillipsburg for shopping. We have always rented a car at the pier, without reservation, and had a great time without incident.

The last time we were there, we did the America cup racing yachts. What a hoot! A bunch of tourists sailing a racing yacht.

We did the Golden Eagle catamaran tour. It was great if you don't mind getting wet. We were soaked after 5 minutes at sea. But at 30 C heat - who cares

There is a beach just outside the international airport, the planes come in really low when they land!

If you go over to the French side in a cab pay attention to the time. The afternoon traffic over the hill coming back to the cruise pier is horrendous..Not that hard to miss your ship.

I agree 100% with PC GUY. Hello. In St. Maarten, you MUST go to Sun Set Beach Bar on Maho Beach. Less than a 30 minute drive from the pier. At this beach, the airport is within 25 feet of the beach. If you ever seen those pictures of people standing on the beach and a big 747 is RIGHT on top of them, this is the beach. Come noon time, about every 10 minutes planes are coming in for a landing. It is the coolest things in the world. The beach is very nice, drinks are reasonable, food is great, but the coolest thing is the planes coming in........out of this world. We spent the week here just this past month.
