Credit Card Usage in the Ports? (Ocho Rios & Grand Caymen's)

I'm bringing cash to pay for our excursions (Trevor Hudlin in Jamaica & Captain Marvin's in the Caymens) but if I want to do shopping are credit cards widely used or should I bring cash? If not should I get travelers checks, etc. I'd rather pay for everything including items on the ship with a credit card so I don't have to deal with cash. Do I need local exchange or will US Dollars be okay. I don't plan on purchasing a lot, but I know I want some Alchol and maybe a few t-shirts or misc. items. Thank you! I have about 15 days to go and I can't wait! (As long as Delta does not strike we are good to go! )

You can use your credit card in all the ports. If you do use cash for anything, they take U.S. dollars.

On the ship itself, they'll be using a "cash-less system." This means that you will give your credit card information to the cruise line before you sail, and then you use your ship's card (which sometimes also is your room key and boarding pass!)for all purchases. All purchases onboard the ship get accumulated onto your ship's account. When the cruise is over, the charges are sent to your credit card company for payment.

We use a credit for excursions also. Excursions are usually pretty expensive. We don't carry too much cash when we leave the ship because most stores do except credit cards. We leave cash in the safe in our cabin instead of carrying it all with us.

Don't forget to notify your credit card company that you will be out of the country and will be using the card. Some companies will deny the charges if the spending is totally different than what you usually have.
