Hi, we are stopping at this port in February and was wondering is there things to see at the port or not? What is the best things to look at near the port.
Thanks.
The port facility itself is modern and there are the usual shops and cafes located within the port area. This was what I considered a safe place when we were there a few years ago. The area outside of the port was another story. We were on a tour and once our bus left the port things looked quite seedy.
Thanks for all of your response. We wanted to go on the train ride, but Celebrity does not list it as one of the ship tours. It use to be lited, but it's gone now.
wooddon.....Dave is quite right about the Port of Colon.....Once You leave the pier area it is a seedy town. Stick with the cruiseline tours. Any tour which offers a chance to do at least a partial transit of the canal is well worth the expense...usually lunch is included...it is a full day outing!!

Where and how can I get the trip to the locks? how much it cost?
Ditto on this port - it's such a lovely spot; however our experience was it is not safe at all!! It was Easter Sunday, and we thought that we would go to church to light a candle - we were not out a block and 2 police officers warned us of the area; we had an escort 'on bicycle' who followed us as we toured.
I would suggest as everyone else has is do a guided tour or better yet save your money and enjoy the ship.
