St. Thomas on Xmas

My wife and I will be on the Celebrity Horizon cruise this Dec. 20 - 31. It stops in St. Thomas on Christmas day. Has anyone been there on Christmas, and are most of the shops open or closed on that day? Next day is St. Maarten (Sunday), same question, i.e. are shops generally open or closed on Sundays?
