Default Pitons in St. Lucia - How Best to See
We are on Caribbean Princess out of San Juan in March and we would like to see the Pitons. Princess has a 4.0 hour tour in a catamaran and then a swim at a secluded cove and a visit to Marigot Bay. There is another overland tour but it hits the volcano and the sulphur springs as well and I prefer to avoid that one as it can be mighty stinky (at least it was in Hawaii and I will get an instant headache) taking in all that sulfur. Can we take a cab to the Pitons ?? Does not look like it is next door to the pier so I doubt it? Any thoughts?

We just grabbed a local "tour guide" at the pier. I think we paid $20 a person (might have been $25) to be taken anywhere we wanted to go. We negotiated at the pier. No its not a short drive to see the Pitons, but if you don't want to have to be forced into seeing all the things on the tour its a good option. Even paying the "entrance fees" at some of the attractions we wanted to see it was less expensive than paying for the ship's tours.

However, we were a family of four so the person person cost is spread across more people.

I vote for the catamaran, that's the best way to see them in my opinion

I would recommend some sort of water transportation as well. We took a small boat with 10-15 people and they had vans waiting for us near the Pitons. On the way back we stopped at a resort to swim and relax and then returned to the pier. Sure beats riding in a bus on all the winding, bumpy roads.
