Cane Bay, Antigua on our own?
We are arriving in Antigua on the Celebrity Silhouette in December. We have spent so much on this 12 night cruise and various excursions that we thought we would do a couple of excursions on our own. One that we were considering was going to Cane Bay to snorkel off the beach. Has anyone done this on their own? How much is it to get a taxi for 4 people to/from port? I have emailed Cane Bay Dive Shop to see how much they charge for transportation/snorkel gear but they haven't answered yet. We do have our own gear that we can bring if needed. Any thoughts would be appreciated!:)

I always bring my own gear. You can negotiate outside of the terminal with the drivers. They'll want to fill up their cabs, which are actually buses, so if you don't want to pay an arm and a leg, you'll be waiting for a while. We were able to talk them into $25/pp, but I believe it varies.

Like Penny said.. you can negotiate a taxi price. My advice... there wil be a hoard of taxi/tour guys waiting for you. Go through the first group (might even be inside the terminal entry) and out to where the independent taxi/tour guys are. They are not allowed close to the ship therefore they lose a lot of customers to the main taxi companies. IF you can find some friends on the ship that want to join you you can do better for a group rate. They charge by the van full so the more people the cheaper per person rate you will get.

We met the best group of "kids" this way. They were all in their early twenties and we had met on the ship that morning at breakfast. We happened to get off the ship at the same time and we decided to join up and we got a tour van for the day for about $20 a person. it was great.
