we are leaving in a month for our cruise. I can find nothing to do in costa maya that sounds intresting. we are not into shopping and it appears thats about all there is to do there. we have done the mayan ruins also.
any suggestions?
macmom the best advice I can give at Costa Maya is get out of town ! It is basically a cruise built stop, and is way over priced. For a cheap taxi ride you can go to an authentic shipping village called Mahajual(many different spellings) and enjoy the beach all on your own. I did it solo, and felt very safe. I did enjoy a frozen drink in Costa Maya, just to people watch on my way back to the ship which is the longest pier ever ! Take advantage of the shuttle they provide down the pier.

We did a beach away from the town as well. We did an excursion there and were satisfied. It was not the glorious beach you will find on St. Thomas or St. John, but it was a fun day in the sun and water and worth it.

I couldn't find much to do in Costa Maya either... we are doing the Mayan Ruins in Belize. So, I went with an outside tour company and booked a beach day with them. It sounds pretty good, open bar, beach activities etc...all for only $35 a person. We can drink that much!
Not sure if I can say the name of the tour company, but just google costa maya and shore excursions.
Queenofcruzin said it all - Costa Maya is a cruise built stop. Long pier yes. We got off ship, walked around the shopping spot at the end of the pier - perused the Farmacia and got a hoot out of the all drugs that are sold over the counter. Drugs requiring a prescription every where else. Enjoyed the sun and got back on the ship and watched people from our balcony. Look at Costa Maya as another glorious sea day. That is what we did.
Be aware that native H2O is used to make the ice that goes into those mixed and frozen drinks... It's not always a wise decision to play Russian roulette with Montezuma when he has the home-field advantage.

Now you know why the Pharmacia offers such a large selection of anti-montezuma meds alongside all the other non-prescription stuff!!!
