We will be stopping in Jamaica for the first time. We could use some advice on what to do.
We have heard some horror stories about the natives agressiveness.

we were there in January. We got off the ship and decided to walk around in the port area, we were like a ping pong ball to these drug dealers, one would approach us and we kindly said no, and another approached us. that lasted about 5 minutes. We headed back to the ship. I dont know why cruise ships stop there except it is probably really cheap port charges. other may like it better. I dont think I will choose a cruise that shops there again

We love Jamaica. The people are the same at every Caribbean port. You just have to ignore these type of people and just walk away like we do. We have been to Jamaica several times and would go back tomorrow. There are some nice hand made stuff from the local people that we love to buy. Like I indicated, you just have to be careful and walk away and ignore the people who are after you. We must remember that these local people have nothning and of course they want you to buy from them. Only make sense.

Go with an open mind. Be prepared for aggressive locales. Be polite. Keep your money in a money belt, camera firmly around your neck and buy a few trinkets. Take a cab to Dunn River Falls. Bring your water shoes. It has been a couple of years, but there was a little beach close to the pier which we strolled onto. I remember one year, Carnival wanted us to pay something like $50 bucks to enjoy this beach which was like "next door" to the ship. We said no thank you and did not need a "cocktail" of rum that had been sitting in the 90 degree heat.
