Freeport Excursions
Although we've been to the Bahamas a lot, we've never been to Freeport. I've heard there's not a lot to do there. We've moved in to the slightly less active role of excursions. Also stopping at Tortolla. Any suggestions?

I think there is a huge resort being built by the Chinese on Freeport. Not sure if it is open yet.

Freeport is a place we stay on the ship. The costs of a taxi to anyplace you want to go prohibits doing anything on your own (we were going to go to a beach last time but the taxi fare to and back for the 4 of us would have been $150....)

They have a little tourist shopping area right at the ship.. there is a hamburger stand there at the extreme left of the shops (as you get off the ship) The guy makes them on a grill right there. The crew recommended them to us last time and we tried them and agree they are very good

The big resort being built by the Chinese is in Nassau out past Cable beach. It's the Baha Mar due to open in December 2014.

Wow Jim, I think someone was trying to pull a fast one. I've see more than one site that says taxis are $3.00 for the first 1/4 mile and .40 for each additional 1/4 mile. $3.00 per person extra for each person over two.

They quoted us $20 per person to and from the beach we wanted to go to. (So it would really have been $160)... I started to negotiate the price when I realized even at half that I had lost my desire to go to the beach.
