I have heard so many wonderful reviews of this beach. I would like to know if its easy to do this trip from Charlotte Amalie and how long it takes. Is the ferry service quite reliable? I understand the ferry also leaves from Red Hook but involves a cab ride. Also, is the cab service to/from Trunk Bay to Cruz Bay readily available?-Can you request the cabbie to come back for a pick up at a specific time? Obviously, don't want to risk missing the ship!

Cheers!

The ferry does leave from Charlotte, but it doesn't run as regularly as Red Hook. Red Hook is a regular schedule because that is where the locals go. It runs every hour at 20 after the hour I believe. The cab costs around $18/pp one way. We normally leave out of there and come back to Charlotte, if we time it right. Trunk Bay is one of the top 10 beaches in the world.

The lots on all sides are loaded with cabs. If you ask them to meet you, you will be rushed. If you're really feeling adventurous take the 'dolla' ride for an insider's view of the island.

REmember, this is a cab (to Red Hook) ferry (to St. John) cab arrangement. Trunk bay is not right next to the ferry dock. It is worth the effort. The cabs are delightful open air and the scenery on St. John is lovely. You are less then 10 minutes from the ferry dock on St. John. Cabs were waiting in the lot at Trunk Bay for people returning to the ferry. There were cabs on the ST. Thomas side of the ferry dock, and also a bus--we weren't adventuresome enough to try, but it got back to the ship same time the cab did! We spent from about 10 a.m. to about 3 p.m. at Trunk Bay not including any transportation, and had time to check out a couple shops and be back on board by 5 as requested. I'll remind you what i have posted many times before: St. Thomas is Atlantic time. Most ships stay on time with the port of departure, if this was Miami for this you this Eastern time. Check your watch and NOT any local clocks you see around. The dashboard clock in the cab may be a different time zone than you think!

There will be taxis waiting at Trunk Bay to go back to the Cruz Bay ferry terminal. Jim C. wrote an excellent post in this thread about how to get there and back. I also posted a link to the ferry schedules and costs. You will love Trunk Bay, and it is worth every bit of effort and cost to get there.

I created a topic in the FAQ section that contains my instructions and Dwayne link to the ferry schedule.

I went to Trunk Bay on a shore excursion involving the boat "Leylon Sneed". It was probably more expensive then going there on your own, but it was allot simpler since your transportation was taken care of. Here are two photos I took during the shore excursion:

Yes, the name of Trunk Bay in the second photo is probably misspelled. I did see someone spell it with the "C". However, I was later told it is spelled without the "C".
