Last Christmas we took the NCL Dream on a western Carib cruise, and stopped in Cozumel. The taxi to town and back was about $20 for the four of us, so I opted to rent a 'luxury' Chevy nova. Hertz asked for my drivers license, I said I had to go back on ship and get it. They said don't bother, and rented me the car with a swipe of the credit card. The daily rental was $45. We took a leisurely drive around the island, stopping at every other canteena for cold drinks, chips, salsa, restrooms. Since I love to drive fast, and no one near, I got up to 125 kilometers (80mph). The speed limit was 50 Kilometers per hour, (35mph). Then a car came in the other direction. When it got close enough to recognize, I saw it was a police car. They just smiled and waved, and kept going. Guess it was my lucky day. Back in town, it was fun to pass the local taxis, the ones you see passing everyone else. I gassed up at the local gas station to save the higher cost back at the pier, bought four coke lights and some chocolate, returned it, and went aboard, looking over my shoulder for the cops to finally catch up.
