how is the shopping in G.C? Can you bargain?

Grand Cayman has lots of shopping, and lots of high end merchandise too. The economy there is perhaps better than the U.S., thus you aren't going to find stores bargaining with customers. In fact, the Cayman dollar is worth more than the U.S. dollar. Presently $1.22 American equals 1 Cayman dollar, so be careful when looking at prices since it might cost you more than you think if you use U.S. currency. No need to use the local currency. Everyone takes U.S. dollars.
Grand Cayman is perhaps the safest port in the Caribbean. Crime is almost unheard of. There are no beggars hassling tourists as is common on other islands. All beaches are safe, and by law must allow public access to the high water mark. There are no "beachy" beaches near the tender pier. You could walk to 7-Mile Beach but it would take a little while. I suggest you consider going to the Turtle Farm by taxi. They have expanded the area to include a beach resort which I hear is very nice.
