I have not cruised for 10 years. Last I knew Carnival allows none on board except their own bars, resteraunts and lounges. Royal Carribean would allow you to buy a bottle on board to bring to your room. It was possible for both lines to smuggle some onboard in your luggage as long as it was not in a labled bottle, ie. you could put vodla in a listerine bottle and no questions asked. This was all prior to 9-11. What is the current story?
You can look at our Alcohol FAQ for detailed information and links to the cruise line rules. RCI no longer allows their passengers to buy bottles aboard their ships for cabin consumption.
They do check all luggage either manually or electronically, and I have known people on RCI who have had alcohol confiscated on embarkation day.
The official policy of this forum is to support the cruise line rules and not condone smuggling. Therefore I will close this thread since the FAQ answers your question.
