Trying to read and decide between Eastern or Western 7 day out of Galveston....Eastern ports are Key West, Freeport and Nassau....Western ports are Ocho Rios, Grand Caymen and Cozumel. Have been to Cozumel twice and will go back anytime, but wife thought the Eastern looked neat. Hmmmmmm...choices . What is your opinion for those who have been to both? Please help with your experiences.

Key West is a great port, Nassau has the Atlantis and Cabbage Beach, and I haven't been to Freeport in years, but people have written some bad reviews-I used to love Freeport, even better than Nassau. However, as I said it has been years since I've been. Lucaya was a beautiful development there, at one time.

Ocho Rios you have Dunn's River Falls, which is a MUST if you go. Grand Cayman you have Stingray City and Seven Mile Beach, plus some really good snorkeling and shopping. And Cozumel you already know about.

That's a tough choice!

That's a tough one Rodney. I've been on both several times. Personally I like the Western better considering the choices. Now, if the Eastern had St. Thomas instead of Freeport that would be a factor. Good Luck deciding!

OOPS ...why did I say Ocho Rios....I meant Montego Bay...still Jamaica. Thanks Penny and Dwayne for the initial input. Anyone else have any ideas? I am leaning to Western from the get-go.

Montego Bay is really a pretty port, too. We did a tour there and went to Rose Hall. Jamaica is a beautiful island, it's just ashame that the locals don't recognize the gold mine they have. Instead of being aggressive trying to sell stuff legal and illegal, and sometimes robbing tourists, they should be working on ways to show case their island. The coffee plantations, the rum factories, the beautiful rain forests, there is just so much that island has to offer and they allow a few to ruin it for the many.

I have to agree with Dwayne, St. Thomas or St. Maartin would sell me on the Eastern. Even Grand Turks would be a great option.

However, a cruise is fantastic without ports I do try to book itineraries based on where I haven't been before. At least 1 new port. Sometimes I can't, but my goal is to visit every island in the Caribbean

Do a back-to-back; some ships alternate Eastern/Western.

This one is available...April 17th Western, then April 24th Eastern. Too bad I am not retired, so I can't take off work for 2 weeks in a row right now ...otherwise...a great idea!

I'd lean toward western as well, however I take what I can get for a good value when I have the time off. And there is that little itty bitty part about your wife wanting the Eastern itenerary....that might be the deciding factor!

Thanks for the input. Wife decided the Western would be the best choice afterall. We live in Texas, so the drive to Galveston is not a big deal for us...8 hours. And, with her siblings living on the East Coast area, we will save the Eastern cruise when we can all meet in FL. and do that together. Sounds like a plan to me! Western with the wife for our 35th anniversary, and Eastern for a family cruise later on.
