Gene Sloan is reporting in THIS USA Today report that a woman passenger was murdered in Antigua. She was a Star Clipper passenger.

Wow Dave, have never had the opportunity to port in Antigua and it appears that may not be on many cruise lines itinery with all the recent goings on there. I guess the lines have to do what they feel is best for them and the paying customers. I don't care where you are; in the US or some small island, no one should feel they can travel anywhere not knowing if they are really in a safe space. Not to say that trouble dosen't come looking for you.
There certainly many, many areas of each island paradise that just are not safe. Its such a shame to see these things happen.

Wonder what the other cruise lines are thinking of doing since Carnival isn't going to the island per the article. My cruise in April with Celebrity is supposed to go there.

I do think there is security in numbers. I wonder if she was traveling alone, or sight seeing alone. I travel with my sister, we never go anywhere alone. Even if we think it is safe.

Although I am trained in self-defense I always prefer the safety-in-numbers approach when in unfamiliar places. It doesn't always work but you have to go with the odds. Most attacks will be by one person and they do not want to deal with more than one victim.
