I've read that shopping in St. Thomas is incredible, but our ship will be there on a Sunday and I've also read that many of the shops won't be open. Has anyone ever been there on a Sunday? I understand that some shops are open in the morning so I was thinking of shopping then but I'm concerned that there may not be enough open to warrant it. Any opinions would be great. Thanks.
If ships are in port, the shops will be open. I wouldn't call St. Thomas shopping incredible. As with many things in the Caribbean these days, it isn't as good as it used to be. Prices are set and their is little or no negotiating.
If you dock at Havensight pier you will have an open air shopping mall right there, literally a minute or two walk from the ship. These shops also have a presence downtown, so you'll see the same things in both places.
We were in St Thomas last March on a Sunday. It was one of the best port days we ever had.
We were on the Serenade and the only ship in port. WE walked off the ship, into town and then up to Blackbeards castle. We then walked into the shopping district and found... no one, the stores were all open for business but the streets were almost empty. We have always been in St Thomas with at least 3 other ships and it is very busy and this was a very nice change.
As Dave noted Havensight was open for business and also very quiet.
You will have a great time, enjoy.
