Our carnival cruise arrives at 7am into San Juan. The best flight(by a wide margin) departs at 9:15am. It looks like the cruise terminal is pretty close to the airport.

What i don't know is how early we need to check in for a flight to the continental US. Or how busy that airport would be on a Sunday morning in July.

Please share your thoughts if you've been there.

Welcome to cruise-chat.

Don't book that flight. Your ship "arrives" at 7am but that doesn't mean you can leave the ship at 7am. The vessel still has to be released by Customs and that can normally take an hour or more before they allow passengers to debark. It is realistic to expect that you won't be allowed off the ship until 8am or even 8:30am. This means you will not be able to make a 9:15 flight. Actually, trying to make a 9:15 flight for any cruise is unrealistic.

Hi Wandering_burr, Welcome to Cruise-Chat!

You should take Dave's advice and not book that flight. The earliest flights Carnival recommends for San Juan are the first ones after 12pm.

Thank you for the recommendations. I'll look at flights later in the day.

Don't book that flight;

*the ship sometimes don't arrive at 7 am ifg they have some troubles on the islands or other kind of problems that is cutting it close.

* the law here states that you have to be at least 2:00 hour or cutting close 1:30 hour before your flight and also during Sunday the San Juan airport is very busy since all cruisers are arriving or leaving the island and summer is our best tourist time so is way better to book a later flight

We got to San Juan on the AOS at 9 a.m. with scheduled arrival/ debarkation beginning at 7 a.m.--the sea was rough leaving St. Thomas. We cleared customs in an hour and were off the ship at 10--that's a bit difference from 7.
