Taking our first western caribbean cruise in late October. We would like to keep our shore excursion costs to a minimal and would like to find a nice beach to hang out at in Belize, Roatan, and Costa Maya. Any recommendations, or input would be most appreciated.

YOu will love the port, at Roatan take the ski lift to the beach for 5 dollars a person or walk for free. At Costa Maya take a taxi to mahalajua, it is 5 dollars round trip, 2 there and 3 back. It is (or was last yr) a beautiful very rustic mexican village. We loved it. oh and get a massage on the beach 10 dollars for 30 mins or 20 for an hr.
cant help you in belize, I am not even sure there is a clean beach you can walk to. But be sure to watch the ship arriving in Belize and see the tiny little islands the ship has to dodge. It is beautiful. Have fun!!!

In Belize City there aren't any beaches so you are better off doing mayan ruins tours or we did the Xstream Zipline and cave tubing tours which we found to be excellent.

In Costa Maya we found a great All Inclusive beach called Nohoch Kay that we booked online with Costa Maya Cruise Excursions. We had an excellent beach day, tons of great food and the Margaritas are to dye for!

When we were in belize, we took an airboat tour and actually saw a school of manatees feeding and swimming around us - awesome mammals. Also in the airboat tour was a expanded version of the city tour in the sense we got to see both sides of their economy. In Roatan we went to the animal and monkey refuge. The monkeys actually come down and will sit on your shoulder or head etc, word of warning- keep anything shiny out of their reach or you will lose it!! The monkeys also love cola and they can actually twist open a bottle.

Hope this helps
