I've received reports that as a result of the Gulf Oil facility explosion and fire, the port of San Juan is closed. Currently no cruise ships are scheduled until Sunday when the Adventure Of The Seas, Grandeur Of The Seas, and Carnival Victory are due to arrive.
Oh my heavens, I haven't read about that. Was anyone hurt? Was in on purpose or an accident? I pray no one was injured and that the port will re-open soon.
I don't know for sure. Reports are hard to come by. I did see that there was little to no damage to anything outside the oil facility, taxis were running, SJU didn't close, etc. The biggest concern is air quality with all the toxic gases. I imagine the port will reopen in a few hours once the smoke clears out.
hmm that report says it could take a week for the fire to be put out... that doesn't bode well for the cruise ships if the Port is also going to be closed down for that long...
