Hi all- Just wanted to drop in and give everyone a heads up. On our last week's stop in Cozumel on the Valor we just wanted to hang a nice beach. We had previously gone there and found an all inclusive hotel that let us use their facilities which was really nice, but it was about $20 a person. This time we talked with a local dive shop operator who pointed us to a beach called "Money Bar". Money Bar is a place just south of Chakanab (or how ever its spelled). Its not a huge beach but it is nice. They do not charge anything to use the beach, but their is a restaurant that serves great food and drinks and provides restroom and shwoer facilities as well as lounge chairs and umbrella tables. There is also a little shop that rents snorkel equipment. They are building a hotel across the street called the Landmark Resort which should be ready sometime in 2011 which I assume will absorb the restaurant, but the guy running the restaurant claimed the beach area is national park and therefore free to use. The best thing about this place is it was only a $7 taxi trip from the ship. (For a taxi load not per person)
The food and drink prices were reasonable but not overly cheap and the food was very good. So if you are looking for a inexpensive beach break, I would recommend this place. The snorkeling wasn't not great. There were a lot of fish and they are in process of building up the reef, but not much there in the way of a reef.
