We're weighing a few different cruises out of New Orleans for next year, namely the Carnival Triumph to Belize City, Honduras, Cozumel or NCL Spirit to Costa Maya, Guatemala, Belize City, Cozumel.
We've been to Cozumel, but none of the others. I've been reading some of the older threads on some of the ports, and it sounded like there wasn't much happening in Costa Maya and there's a travel advisory associated with Honduras due to political unrest? Yikes.
I'd love to get some updated opinions on these ports, whether they're worth it, etc., and what you guys did there.

Costa Maya has a good beach and there are some decent ruins there to visit as well. Roatan has not been affected by the unrest and the ships will not go into any port if there is danger to their passengers. So, if the people of Roatan want to make the money they are currently making off of cruise ship passengers, they will not cause the tourists any grief. They're both great itineraries, so I'd be going for the least expensive one, just my opinion.
Penny is correct. We went to Roatan, Honduras late September. Its an island off of the country and none of the political problems are evident on the island. i would not hesitate in going again. Besides, the elections for a new president have just completed. So that should be over... We have not been to Costa Maya yet, so we are looking forward to our Dream cruise (which has those exact ports...)

we are book on the dream for next yr and the plan is a stop at roatan. this will be our 2nd time there and i hope things are calm so we can stop there again, I LOVED THE ISLAND.
