Hi, Can anyone please give me any and as much info they can about booking an excursion at the dock in Antigua? I have been on many cruises and some are great for this where you can get stuff for half the price where other ports don't have anything to book at the dock and you have to book excursions on the ship. I also scuba dive so if you have any positive stuff to say about diving here please do. I may dive depending on what other things we might be able to do here. Thanks so much for any info! =) Justin

Highly recommend doing a shore excursion here. They have a stand set up right outside of the terminal area. We wanted to go to English Harbour or Nelson's Dockyard, so we sat and waited until the driver could get more people. We sat around for about an hour. Finally, we were able to get 4 more couples and had a great time. He started out not wanting to go down in price, but he did finally go down to $25/pp. He took us over to the dockyards and to a beautiful vista (I want to say Mount Elizabeth or something like that), then took us to a nice beach for a few hours. The first time we went there we took a catamaran sail/snorkel. There were so many jellyfish that the snorkeling wasn't nice. Too many to move. We were there in late October/early November on that cruise, so it might have been the time of year. I was disappointed because it is suppose to be good diving/snorkeling there. But last year, I didn't want to risk spending money for something that couldn't be enjoyed, so we just opted for a tour on our own.

justin- i am in process of writing a review of this cruise. We booked excursions on the dock in each port. Let me finish my review and I will come back and answer any questions you have.

I would recommend Valley Church beach (if you just want to relax on a beach). We also saw Devil's Bridge which was very interesting. There are 365 beaches (or so they claim) on Antigua so you have a lot to choose from. There are also rain forest tours but by the time the ship gets to Antigua you will probably have seen enough rain forests.

There are SOOO many taxi drivers trying to sell you a taxi ride that you need beat them off with a stick, but if you go just past them, you will find tour guides. (The taxi guys will get you where you want to go, but the tour guides will give you information along the way.

Is Antigua as crazy as St. Lucia is with the taxis? I haven't been yet.

I'd say so. They all have their laminated signs and all want to give you a deal, even though the prices are posted.
