Excusion Questions

Hello! We have a cruise booked for the beginning of April (Carnival Miracle) which goes to 4 islands. We don't want to do excursions at all 4 but was wondering what people's opinions were on which places that you should do an excursion due to either not alot being at the island to go on your own or safety. The islands we visit are Belize, Costa Maya, Cozumel and Grand Cayman. Thanks for your help!

We just got back from a Valor sailing. Costa Maya was our favorite. We took a tour to Kohunlich ruins by booking on shore as opposed to on ship and saved $35 per person. We travelled alone with a driver in an air-conditioned car and enjoyed a couple of side trips that the bus tours would never get.

I was at the Grand Caymans two years ago and or group went on a trip to swim with the stingrays along with some snorkeling. This was an awesome trip.

It also depends upon what you want to do and its distance from the ship. For instance, if you want to use Cozumel as a starting point for a visit to the ruins at Tulum, I would most definitely use a ship's tour, particularly if this is your first visit. Given the long distance between the two, I'd be far more comfortable on a ship tour, which is guaranteed to get me back to the ship before it leaves. There are other examples -- many of which are in the article Tom cited -- so let us know what you're looking into so we can offer specific suggestions.

I was in costa Maya in November and loved the ATV Adventure, also if you want a beach day I also agree that the small town of Mahahual is wonderful.
In Grand Cayman I also agree the sting rays are a riot.

we were in the grand caymans last wed. took the sting ray trip with moby dick tours. very cool! glad we booked outside of boat because they canceled all tours that day because of the weather. there was suppose to be a big storm in the afternoon and we had to leave port an hour early. we got our tour in and back an hour before the boat left. moby dick tours were very understanding and made sure we were all back in time as there were people from other boats with us.
