I have not been to Cozumel since Wilma. I hear that there was a vast devastation of the island specially the Coral reef at Chankanaab park. I would like to see what would be the best thing to do in Cozumel. I will be there next week and have not made up my mind on what to do. I am open to any suggestions: ruins, beaches, excursion, etc
Thank you for all your help....

You can still snorkel. The Fury Catamaran is still good...not as good as it was but still good. There is also the helmet dive which is great fun.

Nica- Its almost here isn't it? I hope you keep your word on warming up that craps table for me!

As for Cozumel, we were there in October. Yes, the close in coral was messed up. We still saw fish but nothing nearly as good as when we were there pre-hurricane. If you want to see fish you will need to do a helmet dive or the mini-sub thing, These are in deeper waters where the waves didn't damage the coral so much.

Do you scuba? That might be a better bet.

Have Fun!

Jim,
Already talked to my brother. We will definetely try to get that table hot and ready for you.
I do not scuba but I am looking to getting certified in the next year or so. Right after I jump off an airplane (tandem). These are the two things in my to do list for the near future.

I will give the helmet dive some thought. I heard that you were not in the water too long.

The helmet dive is short. You will actually only be in the water about 20 mins.

If you want to try scuba without having to go through the certification, you can book an "Intro to Scuba" dive. My daughter and I did this in October. They take you right off the beach. The provide all the equipment, give you a quick lesson on how to use the gear and then take you out for your first dive. The dive master said that the class counts towards getting your certificate if you follow up right after... Its an option (though it was kind of pricey.)

Snuba is also another option. It's a mix between scuba diving and snorkeling. It's like scuba diving except you don't have to actually carry the equipment on your back. The boat will carry the equipment above the water while you keep the breathing mask on and are handsfree underwater. If you decide to do this, let me know how it went. I'm doing this on my cruise in July.

Nica-When you jump off the airplane in tandem, please do not forget that at least one of you should be wearing a parachute!! Enjoy!

Billy,
I'll let you know how it goes. That's if the parachute opens . I am hoping the I can do the jump this year but my wife wants me to get more life insurance. I have to check and see if she knows the instructors first .

Thanks to everyone for the input I am taking all of them into consideration. I'll run it by the Boss for the final approval.

Nica...the Fury Catamaran is called DELUXE SAIL, SNORKEL, AND BEACH PARTY on Carnival. It costs $49 and it's worst every dime. Great crew, free booze, nice beach, pretty trip, and you'll WANT to return. As I said, we've done it twice...and getting ready to do it a 3rd time!
