Looking for Local Captain to hire ...

Hello,

My name is Doug and I plan to move to St. Thomas at the end of September. My friends and I are buying a boat and plan to live aboard.

We have all been boaters for several years, but not "sailors". We are looking for someone that can teach us to sail in the month of October. We are curently trying to buy a catamaran in the BVI.

We are also interested in finding someone to sail the boat to the VI if we find one in Fl or somewhere on the East Coast.

I will be down on August 11, 2008 for a week to do preliminary legwork to make the move easier for all.

If you or someone you know might be interested, let's grab some drinks the week of the 11th and talk about it.

And those definitely can take on the characteristics of a sailing ship. Lots of "sail area" on high profile vehicles.

Actually I couldn't see owning a sail boat and not being qualified to use it. I once met the master of a 57 foot schooner. It was in Piraeus and the ship was owned by an Italian businessman. The master of the ship was a retired Sergeant Major from the British army. The crew was just him (George was his name) and a lady from then-Yugoslavia who was the maid and cook. He let me tour the ship. I loved it. They just sailed around and would pick up the owner or other guests here and there.

Friends of ours were Captain and Hostess for a Corporate yacht in Nassau many years ago.

They have since retired...but it was a nice gig.
There was also a chef and 3 "hands" aboard.
