Does anyone have insight on the Bicardi tour in San Juan? Is it worth the money?

My husband and I took the Bicardi tour when we were in San Juan a couple years back. Total cost for us was $10.00 (thats $5.00 each). We ate at the Senior Frogs and a waitress told us to take the ferry across the waterway - $.50/pp each way. Once off the ferry we caught a taxi to the factory $2.00/pp each way. The rum factory tour was FREE. We really enjoyed it and along with the tour you get 2 free drinks. I would not have paid the price the cruiseline charged since as I stated total cost for us was $5.00 per person total and I believe the cruiseline charges around $30.00 per person to go, they take you by bus. We are adventuresome so we had a great time and save a bundle also.

I lived in San Juan and we used that Ferry on occasion. (I think it cost a dime back then.) You can catch the ferry, right next to the cruise ship piers. However crossing the bay to Catano takes you to an area of San Juan that is a little economically depressed, so be careful.

I recommend getting a group to go, not just a couple and I think there are often taxis right there. From there it is about a 10 minutes drive to Bacardi.

Make sure you check tour times before venturing over.

It is always risky to do private tours, Look what happened to a private tour off the Liberty just last week, I have to wonder if the bus driver may have been in on it. And also a cruise tour makes sure the ship does not leave without you. I'll stick to the $30 tour and fell safer about it. I'm on vaca money is not the biggest issue

I have often gone off and done things on my own, instead of the cruise ship excursions.

It's not just about the money - it's also nice to be able to stay as long as I want, and do what I feel like, without being on someone else's clock. That's a vacation to me - doing what I feel like, when I feel like

That said, lots of times if the trip is complex, it may be easier just to take the ships excursion

If you are a golfer, there are some great golf courses not too far from San Juan...

Fort Buchanan Golf Club is in San Juan...787-707-3852

Rio Bayamon Golf Course...787-740-1419

In Dorado, Puerto Rico...

Dorado Del Mar Golf course...787-796-3065 (looks to be right on the water!)

West Golf Course...787-796-3065 (yes, the same number as the Dorado Del Mar)

East Golf Course...787-796-8961 (looks to be right on the water)

There are many more golf courses, but these appear to be closest to San Juan!

the folkloric show at the fort was great , here is DH dancing with the dancers when the show ended,
If you are visiting San Juan on a Tuesday, make sure you visit Fort San Cristobal in old San Juan at 6 pm so you can see a neat folkloric show for the same $3 p/p entrance fee.
Go at 4 pm so you can see the fort and stay for the show.

There are many persons that have visited the island of Puerto Rico and have seen old san Juan and the rain forest
There are persons that are looking for new tours that have something of eco-tourism, culture and architecture.
There is a two hour new tour that does that, its called the San Juan off the Beaten Path.
A tour that takes you to the Botanical Garden, the University, the market place and still have time for the old city.
