yes, they keep you together. They create a chain of tubes by locking legs together (your legs go under the arms of the person in front of you. Then the tour guide walks/swims behind the last tube and he "steers" the whole chain to keep it running straight. I would doubt that there are any snakes to worry about due to the colder water, and if there were snakes or other dangerous critters, I don't think the guides would survive as long as they do since they are fully in the water the whole trip and they do it multiple times a week.
yes, it is dark in the caves as you would expect, but they give you the head lamps so you can see the formations and such. I didn't see any bats, but that doesn't mean they were not there I suppose.

I did this excursion last year and there were no crocs or any fish. It was fun and worth it I think. I also liked the jungle hike but it gets a little long (40 mins). It is maybe a 45 min bus trip to get there and on the way back our bus broke down and it was some time before they got another bus to us. I was glad we booked through Carnival because we weren't late to the boat but it was pushing it. All in all a great excurions but it will take up your entire day in Belize.

u2jt1, which tour company did you use? Did you stay together as a group in the water?
I booked thru carnival(not sure the name), yes they let you hang on to the others in YOUR party, but not a long chain of folks like the other tour must do.
we were planning on doing cave tubing in Sept. Kids freak out, so will I, I just know it will be a snake getting me. I might have to rethink the cave tubing thing.
Ever heard that old saying "The snakes are as affraid of you as you are of them". Not always true. Did a float trip right here in Texas after heavy rains and the snakes were flooded out of there holes. They dangled in the trees and when you floated past they'd occasionally drop, looking for a ride. I'm not paranoid about snakes like my wife but it was uncomfortable for me as well. Can't get wifey back in the water except pools since.
You guys are sooooo reassuring on this! Makes me want to just jump right in that water now and go tubing!!! These poor tubing companies are going to go broke if ya'll keep this stuff up!
You can go see what you are getting into if you want. Go to my picture site and you can see pics from when my family and my sister's family went last october. Click here and then go into the Cave Tubing in Belize gallery.
Trust me.. if you want to see someone afraid of snakes, it would be my sister... she had no problems.

Awesome pix! Thanks! This looks like fun to me! I guess it just depends on what your personality is like about enjoying this trip. I think I would enjoy this far more than shopping for trinkets!

there are no snakes, I would do it, where else can you cave tube. Besides Belize is IMO not the best port so it a good chance to see a Jungle and visit a cave....
