How to get from Calica to Playa Del Carmen

Someone mentioned you could get a taxi from Calica to Playa Del Carmen for $5.00. That was last year, is this the best way to get there? I note that cruise tours are $59.00 each for the beach and shop there. A bit steep for the 14 of us family members. Any suggestions? We depart Dec. 27th and glad these ice storms in the midwest are getting it over with, hopefully, NOW.

I think the only way to go to Plaja is by taxi unless you are on a tour. I don't really understand why someone would book a tour to go to the beach and go shopping. These are things you can do perfectly well on your own.

You'll be better off getting cabs for the 14 people. They do have van taxis, so you might get by with just two of them, at most three. It is the cheapest way.
