Sorry, but renting vehicles in ports is outside my comfort zone. It would be different if I was staying there for a week but with a visit of just a few hours there are too many things that could go wrong.

I have frequently rented a jeep or car in Cozumel. You can pick one up at the port, see guys with the clipboards and photos of cars. Or you can walk to Dollar and get an economy for less than $40 for the day. The first time we rented, my friend 'got nervous' that they would run out of jeeps, she insisted on a jeep. So she rented one as soon as we got off the ship. Later and once back on the ship we learned that she had paid 4x the price if we can gone directly to the rental place or rented in advance [online].
