Scott Taylor thank you so much for the pics. I was just browsing looking at the post. Now, I now I have to go to this place. You are right it is heaven on earth. I would like to visit this place on my own and spend some extra time there. Please brief me on the best way to get there. Thank you in advance

Have been there 3 or 4 times on my own, I love it.
From Havensight Pier take a taxi to Red Hook, it was $10.50 pp. St. John ferry leaves from there on the hour was $5.00 pp. Take a taxi to Trunk Bay. There is an entrance fee maybe $4-6.
One of the most beautiful places, best of all if you are a US citizen, you own it. It is a US National Park. There are US Park Service Lifeguards on duty, and a great underwater snorkel trail.
Hi! I originally asked this question, and have returned happy for the advice. We did taxi/red hook ferry/taxi, it did add up, but not more than the ship's excursion, and when they used a bullhorn (not kidding) to round up passengers to leave from various cruises we could stay as long as we wanted to. It was truly paradise, not to be missed, and I would go there again in a minute. My sun loving daughter loved the beach, my active daughter loved the snorkeling, my tired husband loved the reading in the shade, and I loved it all.

IslandCruz,
Thank you for the info. Am I reading that there is a Ferry From Charlotte, Amelie. Any reason why not leave from there as opposed to Red Hook?

Nina, the ferrys from C.A. are less frequent. If you take a taxi from red hook it will be 10 bucks per person each trip so 40 dollars for 2 there and back just to taxi to red hook and back. So you might get to see part of the island (back roads and whatnot) but not really worth 20 per person. I would try to ferry from C.A.

I just returned from our wonderful vacation! While at St. Thomas, we took the local $2 bus to and from Red Hook. Here is what you need to do if you want to do this:
Go out the gate at the Havensight pier area and across the street to the side by the Paradise Point tram. Go to the left, and follow the road around to the right. When you get to the K-mart, go across the street. There is a bus pull-over right there. When a safari bus/taxi comes along ask them if they are going to Red Hook and how much it is. (They both look alike, but the local bus will be full of locals.) When returning from Red Hook, go up to the road and wait with the locals for the safari bus going to the left. It will take you to within 2 blocks of the ships at Havensight.
This is an easy way to save $16 pp round trip!

We sailed on the Serenade, which goes to St. Thomas on Sundays.
I don't know how often the buses go by, but when we waited for one on the way back from Red Hook the first bus was full and we only waited about 5 minutes for another one to come by.

thank you sheffie,
So the bus stop is across the street from Kmart near Heavensight and at red hook it will be on the same side of the road as the pier. Is this right?
