Any of you experienced cruisers use walkie talkies. We tried some a few years ago but they would not work if we were on different decks.
Can anyone reccomend something that would work on ships.
Can't wait to board ship on Oct. 13,07 out of Miami. TRIMUPH

We used them a few years ago with the same results & decided that it's not worth the trouble & irritation it causes the other passengers although we were discretionary where we did use them.
There's not much that can be done to improve coverage aboard the ships because of the steel construction. The ships system uses repeaters thought-out the ship to get the coverage plus their units are probably at least a watt of power.
Sherry , When we went on our curise in April we brought walkie talkies on the ship with us, If you buy or have the good ones that have coverage of 10 miles or better they will work well on ship, Ours worked just Fine,,,,,,
Sherry,
Buy good ones. Motorola's work great on the ship. Target sells them.
They also rent them on-board. I'm not sure of the cost.
One word of advice. Keep the volume low and speak quietly, if you can. Other cruisers do find them irritating. Some will let you know.
Thanks all. Have decided to forget about the walkie talkies. I do have one idea though.
Have bought a small dry erase board so we can leave notes in the room. we were forever looking for paper and pencil. With a teen traveling with us, we are always passing each other so the board will be a big help to us.
A'ndrea, have sailed on Carnivale. Know about the pen and pad, but with teen agers in the same room, it is always a chore to find the pen.
Much easier to set the erase board up by the door. Actually have sailed on the Triumph before. Like the ship.

We were really thankful to have walkie talkies with us. They worked even in the ports when my husband would go back to the boat and we would stay at port. The only problem we had was with other people on the same channels. With the numbers of people onboard and on other ships docking, I don't think that it could be avoided. Good luck!
