I have never booked a cruise directly with Carnival yet today I got a phone call from "my personal vacation planner" inviting me to call him back for the latest special pricing. I just let the machine record him and didn't respond.

Does Carnival automatically assign everyone who has either registered at their website or cruised with them before to a PVP?

I can't stand phone solicitations!

Makes you wonder doesn't it ... I checked me e-mail messages after being gone over the holiday's and received 3 messages from my PVP - all 3 were different names - advising of the Great opportunities ... they also need to talk to each other or take a vote to see who will win the PVP for that day.

I get e-mails often. I never paid attention to see if they had a PVP listed. This is the first phone call I've received. I think it was triggered because I was looking around their website last week.

I've received calls from a PVP offering "unmatched" bargains. I've gotten a call from the HAL version, too.

I actually asked the PVP, "What if I have a travel agent?" and he said the agent was able to offer the same prices. I was certainly happy to hear that. http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo...n_rolleyes.gif

Hmmm, I've never been called. Sounds like a heavy duty marketing tactic of direct booking, and trying to skirt around Travel Agents.

I just had the weirdest thing happen though. My home phone rang, and one second later my cell phone rang. Both were a recording from Jamaica tourism.

Not to my knowledge. I have been registered on the site since they started registering, and haven't had one call me. Maybe certain applications on the site could trigger it. I know they want you to register to get the new brochures I posted about.

It would be funny if one did call me, I would play stump the PVP. http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo...on_biggrin.gif

Ordering the new brochures must be what triggered it. I ordered them last week.

I got the same recorded message. My phone rang twice, once right after the first call, but just one message was left.

My sister claims that every time she accesses the Carnival website to search for cruise prices she gets a PVP call. She has since changed her phone number in her login info to avoid them.

So this is not something new, but maybe it is an extension of former practice (calling after a brochure request)

I should add that I used to have an assigned PVP and only THEY would contact me. That person moved up in the ranks and they attempted to assign me to new PVP. But I took the opportunity to change to a travel agent. I still get emails for specials from the new PVP, but have never spoken with them. They don't give up easily, but if you can find a good PVP they are great to have. I like it better than the random agent you are assigned when calling RCCL.

Jim's right in that this is nothing new. Early in 2006, I was looking around the Carnival site to see if there were any Eastern Canada cruises that would fit our summer schedule. Within a couple of days, I received several emails (from different PVPs), and two phone calls (again, from different PVPs). I had a TA and made that known to them and asked them to never call me directly again. They haven't, and I've been on the site since then.

Still, we'll see if ordering a brochure last week starts this all over again.
