I am going on my first cruise in Nov and I have been reading lots of great info on line already, but just wanted to see if there was any advice experienced cruisers could give to someone new to it. I also have a specific question about tipping/service. I know that Carnival automatically adds $10/day/person to your Sail and Sign account right at the very begining of the cruise and allow you to adjust the amount at the end. They also add 15% to your drink orders. There is lots of info about food and activities, but I wanted to get some more information about tipping in general .. are people still expected to tip individuals (I know there are specific people included in the $10/day)? I don't have any problems tipping for excellent service, just wanted to know what to expect in that area. Thanks in advance for any helpful advice you can give me!!

Start enjoying the cruise the minute you board the ship. Carry on a bathing suit so you can enjoy the Jacuzzi while others walk around clueless.

Tip, as you feel necessary. You can train servers to treat you well by acknowledging them along the way.

Have a great cruise!

mikayla,
Welcome to cruise-chat. Your $10 a day + 15% gratuity already added to bar tabs (BTW - In case you order wine at dinner, the wine tab will also have a 15% gratuity added automatically), should cover most of the people you would want to tip - with one exception - room service. Although certainly not mandatory, I would consider tipping those who deliver room service $1 or $2. For all else, do as Tom suggested - if you feel someone warrants extra recognition, do so.
Nancy

Mikayla, as we all know, money makes the world go around. If you have the resources, I would suggest tipping those that can make your cruise experience more enjoyable. Your wine steward, room steward, waiter, Maitre Di' and others can be influenced by money. It is my opinion that it is better to tip in advance, rather than in arrears.

I know you will have a great cruise and I can't wait to here about your adventure.

Walter
