The funpass eliminates having to fill out all of that information at the port. Your travel agent should send you the other required documents to fill out before you get to the port, various forms for the Port/s you are visiting.
The only thing left you will have to do before boarding is give them your credit card and sign it. The funpass is your basic charge account for everything you purchase on the ship and the tipping.
Filling it out online really does make things go faster.

I am not sure what it does. I will say I got on the ship faster after waiting in the line than I have before.

Before Funpass was available, you had to fill out a card on every passenger that basically was not bad ...but very detailed. Name, address, phone number, birthday, passport number etc etc etc. This card was part of your documents. And they had to be written in. (Hubby tried to use address stickers one time..not good!)

Basically everything you entered on the computer, had to be written by hand. (on each individual) It just means less "stuff" to do once you get your documents...because where you would have been doing all that writing...it just says "funpass".

With the Funpass, you step up to the Carnival rep, hand them your passports to prove who you are, give them your credit card and it is done.

Now there are some ports that require an additional customs card be filled out before you check in. Those are mailed to you with your documents. But there are not to many ports that require that.

The FUNPASS does help speed up checkin. But the real purpose of the online registration started a few years ago due to security. The ships must report a complete manifest of everyone sailing. By having you complete all the information online instead of at the pier, helps the cruise line to get that manifest to faster and helps ensure the ship will depart on time.

To tag along to what 'Cruise Fanatic' stated this system does indeed speed up check-in, with all the required info entered in their system. That information is required by Homeland Security for any guest leaving the U.S.

The only 'paperwork' that you will have to complete is your Sign/Sail form with credit card # to activate for your cruise. That's it. Happy sailing!!!
