inside guarantee upgraded to outside obstructed

Just thought I would report back on our upgrade, since I started this thread, and we are back from our cruise. I had been upgraded from an inside guarantee to a 5a, which turned out to be Stateroom 4112. it was well located, several cabins in back of the front elevators, but it was really about 95% obstructed, and the french doors did not open. I am not complaining though, as it was much paid than what I booked.

We took a guarantee twice and got burned both times. The first was because we found a great deal at the last minute. Guarantee outside. Ended up being a port hole with non convertible twins. The 2nd time was a guarantee balcony. Ended up getting a cabin with obstructed view and 4 beds that folded out of the wall. Never again. We book early. Get a great price and pick our room. My wife got hooked on the balcony and would not cruise if she didn't have one. Would be different with young kids.

We booked a 8a and got immediate upgrade to 8I. We have been using a TA from Carnival and he said that there is no that we could get a better upgrade if we took a guarantee.

7thSon, sorry to hear about you experiences, but you prove what we've been saying all along about "guarantees"--you roll the dice and take your chance. I'm at least glad the TA at Carnival was up-front about it and didn't make any promises he couldn't keep.
