I'm preparing to embark on my first cruise ever and must say that I'm really looking forward to it. I have been going back and forth on how I should dress for the two (2) formal nights on our 7 day cruise. I would appreciate any feedback that you experienced cruisers could provide.
We cruised Carnival Pride last October - my husband wore pants, shirt, tie and sports coat on formal nights. I wore a nice dress and heels. I don't know if it was the Mexico itenerary or not but we saw very few tuxes and some men dressed only in nice slacks and shirts (Tommy Bahama style). I would take what you are most comfortable in - they do take lots of pictures on formal night and it is fun to have the photos to take home. Hope this helps.
As you can see by my ticker we leave this weekend,, YES !!!, I bought a tux for my self and my son brand new , good quailty off E-bay for under $ 100.00 , chaper than one rental.. happy with it , and would do it again, feel free to look into this option, figure it will make lasting memories with the photo's
I don't own a tux. I just wear a suit. Most men sailing Carnival do a suit. IF you don't want to fuss dragging along formal wear, the option is to rent a tux from the ship. I have considered doing this and may for my up coming trip. You go to a local tux shop to get fitted and then rent the tux from the ship. Its waiting for you when you get there. It would beat having to drag along a suit and shoes and you look spiffy.
IF you already own a tux, then by all means bring it along, you will not be out of place.

Formal night has gotten so unformal....wear what YOU want to wear....I wear a sport coat, tie and a dress shirt...others I've seen come in very casual dress...all the way to a tee shirt and jeans....guess that's formal wear for them....
I am not one for wearing a suit and tie. I love my jeans and shorts, but for formal nights on a cruise, I wear my tux. It just adds to the experience in my opinion.
