My wife and I just completed a 4-Day cruise to Cozumel. It was her first and my second with Carnival. We were on the Triumpth. We left on Nov 4, 2010 at the tail end of a front. It was windy and the temp was moderate, somewhat cold on the Sunday return. We tried to reassure my wife that you don't feel the motion on the ship, we were wrong. The minute we exited the river the ship started rocking and bouncing and stayed that way the whole trip. I don't get sick but my wife does. She had motion sickness patches and made it through with just being a little quizy.

Sorry to hear your wife got sick. There are many over the counter products like Bonine, Ginger, Green Apples, etc. that can help. If she was still a little queezy with the patches, either a green apple or a few drops of bitters in Sprite or 7Up or a GingerAle will calm that.

Normally, the seas are not that rough. Thankfully, I do not get motion sickness. In fact, it's like rocking me to sleep when we're in rough seas. We just returned from the Epic and she was one of the smoothest riding ships I've been on. Of course, we had really good weather http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo...on_biggrin.gif

Sorry to hear about this as well. As Penny said, the seas are not usually that rough. It has happened to me only once. It was on a much smaller ship than the Triumph - the Celebration. We caught the after effects of a storm going up the east coast of Florida. The only thing that helped me was Meclizine the active ingredient in Bonine. I only took a half of one and it helped. I now take Ginger supplements starting a few days before the cruise. It seems to help prevent it.

I have been on alot of cruises and only once did we feel the ocean. we were on the dream and remains of a hurricane got us. The ship rocked and rolled but the patch worked very well for me, but not so well for others.
Just remember it is not always like what you experienced.

Good point. My first cruise we had really rough seas, and one of the entertainment staff told us it wasn't usually that bad. He said something like "This is the worst it's been in 6 months." This was back in 2007 on the Majesty of the Seas to the Bahamas (Royal Caribbean). That was on the first night, and on the second night, the captain kind of joked about it, asking "Anyone feel any motion on the ship last night?" We all screamed, "YES!" The captain just laughed, and promised us it would get smoother, which it did.

My last cruise we had choppy seas also between Grand Cayman and Cozumel. Like Penny, I don't usually get motion sickness, so I was fine.

I just got back yesterday from the 5-day itinerary from Jacksonville to Nassau and Half-moon Cay on the Fascination. As soon as we left Jacksonville, the ship was rocking pretty badly. I love that feeling, but I know that many other passengers were complaining.

When we got to Half-moon Cay on Tuesday, the wind was blowing at almost 40mph and we couldn't tender safely, so we left and spent the day at sea and stopped at Freeport on Wednesday. Unfortunately, that was not much consolation.

Oh well, it was still a great trip.

Take care,

Brad

I hate this topic - I am leaving on my first cruise in 2 weeks. I have never had motion sickness (I have been on a fishing boat many many times - but never a big ship in the middle of the ocean). I really don't know what to do. I have never taken motion sickness drugs either. I don't want to feel "doped" out all week. A friend of mine gave me her wrist bands to use. I am praying for calm seas!!!!

Welcome back Brad http://bestsmileys.com/waving/7.gif Freeport is NOT a substitute for Half Moon Cay. Half Moon is such a beautiful private island! Did y'all go to the Atlantis in Nassau?

Don't work yourself up over it. I don't know what ship you're on, but most likely you will be fine. I wouldn't be taking medication if you haven't had problems before.

Sorry to get everyone worked up. I have been on a seven day before on the Celebration and it was smooth sailing. My family has been on cruises before and said it was the roughest they have ever been on. Again, I don't get sick and it really didn't bother me, I thought it was amusing at times.
