Does anyone know what the rules are about pass-ports? Do you need to have one or can you just use your birth certificate and a militray I.D.?? I know that the rules were supposed to change as of Dec. 31 2006,( you had to have one) but then I heard that they decided not to change them and you didn't have to have one -- not sure if that is ture. Just checking so we can be prepared.

They have pushed the passport requirements out until next year, right now it's Jan. 2008. Unless your a forign national. That's for sea travel only though, if your headed to Puerto Rico for a cruise on Victory you'd need one...

We got one last year. Pretty painless, in a little one-horse (but two dogs) town like Cleveland it only took 3 1/2 weeks.

This year, all that is required for CRUISE TRAVEL is a photo ID and RAISED LETTER (certified) birth certificate. If you were to need to fly home during the cruise for any reason, you would need the passport. Go ahead and get one because you will need it sooner or later and they are good for 10 yrs.

I agree, pretty painless and very much worth the effort. So easy to just pull out one piece of ID rather than fumbling for several. We just got out cruise packet from our TA and it said we will need them. No probelm as we've already sent off for them also to get them in about 3 weeks time. Sooner or later passports will be needed all the time so we just elected to get them sooner.

Messed up on my ship ID out of PR, it's the Destiny, not Victory.

Makes sense to have only one piece of paper rather than two or three.

I do have all the above paper work, but a pass-port that is good for 10 years would be of good use and well worth the money especially since they are going to be going to that rule soon anyway. Thanks for the info.

Thank you for the information. I thought I had heard something about the rule change. I'm glad someone is staying informed.

Happy Sailing, Hope

You do not have to have one for cruising this year, however, you have to have one to fly between countries. If something happened to you in another country and you or Carnival had to arrange to fly home and you did not have the passport it would be a real big hassle. Best to have one

Thank you for the information.
I hope nothing would happen, but I didn't know that you would need one to go from one country to another. Therefore, I think I will get one just in case.
