I did find one thing interesting, and it may only apply in Mobile. While at port, they have a limited selection of beer. We asked for one of those aluminum bottles and were told they would not have them until we left port. Something about the state tax on beer I suppose, but I don't ever remember seeing that before.
I usually order a Foster's oil can on embarkation day, and did so in 2005 when we took the Holiday out of Mobile. I didn't order it this time, and I didn't think much about it, but you are right - when I went to the Wharf Bar to get a beer to go with my corned beef sandwich the bartender told me "the only beer available is what you see on the bar display" - which did not include the 750 ml Foster's cans or any of the 16 oz aluminum bottles.
So obviously the Alabama ABC Board has intervened between now and 2005. I hate the liquor laws in Alabama! But we have made progress. My town was dry until 4 years ago when we finally voted to go wet. And the Alabama legislature is making progress on a bill which will allow beer to be sold in containers larger than 16 ounces, and also to allow beer with higher alcohol which means many of the specialty brews out there will finally be legal here.
I am so sorry! Your post sounded like something Gary would say!
Buckets are more expensive these days. But you get more beer since they are mostly 16 ounce servings unless you get Coors Light or some of the imports.

This July is my first cruise, I am not sure of the prices for drinks. What is the cost for a soda or a mixed drink? What about the fountain card I have heard about?
If you drink 2 sodas per day or more the fountain card is a good deal. It has a down side however, it is only good at a bar, you cannot have a soda delivered to you in the theater or on deck for example. you have to go to a bar and show the card. The is yet another way to reduce at least a little the price of soda. On some ships (and maybe all) there is a vending machine, like you would find in a hotel. It is still not cheap but does avoid the 15% gratuity.
They've brought us sodas on the deck by the pool AND in the theater.

I am really laffing after reading Mr.O and Dave's comments
Mr.O left out his Lido Libations !
Can't say too much as I enjoy a few beers myself when on vacation. What the heck I am not steering the ship
I am prolly closer to Mr.O. I take a nap in between Happy Hour Lido and Dinner. And I always go to Piano Bar or Karoake, then you got your closing down of the Casino and checking to see if the Disco is still going.
