I have seen mixed reviews about formal night. I've seen posts where they say it's fairly casual, and I have seen posts that say ya have to be dressy. It's our first cruise, and I want to be dressy and extravagant for a nite--it's a vacation, relax have fun, do things ya don't normally get to do. Should I spend the money to get a formal gown/dress? Thanks for any suggestions
We sailed on the Conquest January 2005 and we saw quite a variety on formal night. Some people in 'business casual' others in tuxes and ball gowns. So it is really up to you as to what you want to do and how much you want to spend.
I have found some very beautiful beaded dresses on the discount racks. You are going to see a very wide variety of dress. So dress in what you feel comfortable and enjoy your cruise.
I also was on a Jan Conquest cruise. I opted for the basic black on one night and jazzed it with the sparkly jewelery, for the 2nd night, I wore black palazzo pants with a sparkly top, strappy sandals both nights. Like Mandy said, you will see a really wide variety of attire that night. I chose to buy stuff that I would wear again to other functions.
You will have a wonderful time and will not be out of place if you dress up all fancy! We did on our last cruise and it was a lot of fun. I don't get to do that very often. Yes you will see very dressed up people (Formals and Tuxs) also some in very nice church clothes. And everything in between! Just go with what you think is fun and comfortable and have a great time!
Yes, if you want to, dress to the "9's". My friend and I are going on the Triumph the 29th of April, and we will "dress up" for the formal nights, but we will still be really dressed for the other nights too. We love to dress up all the time.
I've done full formals and cocktail dresses, it's all what you'll enjoy wearing. I enjoy dressing up, my husband gripes, but looks great!! You will see everything, but we enjoy looking nice at dinner time all the time. Enjoy your cruise!!
I think Carnival tends to have more 'casual' passengers on the formal nights than other lines but you will see everything. I love to dress up, as do those I sail with, so we always go tuxes and gowns and look great. This is your vacation and you certainly are not going to be out of place dressed formally on formal night so go for it and have a blast!!
