My wife and I were not too thrilled with our cruise on Elation this past week. The itinerary was wonderful. We loved Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel is always fun. We had great seas except for last day and wonderful weather. The staff on this ship was the worst ever. They are not friendly at all. The servers were borderline rude, and it took forever to get service while you were lounging by the pool. The only great service was from our room steward. He was great! Can't remember his name, but a great and friendly guy. The staff just seemed off in another world. Never been on a cruise like it. The ship is indeed in need of a refurb., but still a beauty. We ordered room service a lot and they rarely got it right. Very frustrating. Did they just change groups or something on this cruse. The whole cruise just seemed off. Took forever to board about 2 and half hours. Did anyone else take this cruise that feels this way?
Welcome home, Boneman. Sorry that so many aspects of your cruise were disappointing. I'm actually in the midst of writing my review of our July 2010 Elation cruise (finally!), so I have been reviewing my notes. I also encountered rude behavior -- in my case, it was from one of the staff in the photo gallery. He kept pushing a 24-page album to hold 8x10 photos, and I kept declining. He became very condescending toward me, and then asked my husband, "Is she always like this?" I avoided him the rest of the cruise.
Dave can fill you in on our assistant waiter, who pretty much ignored a teen in our party.
I see you have some good memories, as do I. I also agree that she's a beauty... although this was my first time onboard so I have no basis for comparison.
So sorry to hear you encountered these problems. Yes, they do have change overs with new crew. I spent some time on the Fascination straightening out several of them last year. It was the same type of issues. I was hassled about cashing a Traveler's Check in the casino. That was the last straw for me and I set the young lady straight about what the policy is and asked for the manager. I rarely do something like that, but I am not going to be told something I know is wrong and treated rudely on Carnival especially in the Casino!
The room service was below what was expected as well. I have never stiffed anyone in my life, but came very close. They had 8 pursers at the GSR desk. Two of them knew what they were doing. They finally said that yes, they were training new crew. It is my opinion that the new crew need some anti-rudeness training before they go to the front line of guest services.
Now, that has been an exception to what the normal experience has always been. Thankfully I cruised on the Elation back when it had the best crew ever. Fortunately some of them have moved to the Fantasy. The best thing to do is to reply to the email guest comment/survey about these issues. That way they can address them.

A guy helping me on the Fantasy in the photo gallery really wasn't rude so much as clueless. He didn't want to honor the "free" photo ticket I had won in the casino. He claimed he had never seen one and said no. I explained I had won it in the casino. He still said no. When I said I will take it back to the Casino Management and tell them it is worthless he changed his mind in a snap!
No crew member should be rude or condescending to a guest regardless if they are contracted from outside sources such as the spa or photo gallery.
Welcome back Boneman, sorry to hear about your crew. We wait so long for our cruises and then have to encounter rudeness, it's just such a let down.
I'm glad to hear that the ports and weather were great and that the ship was still a beauty. I hope, in spite of the crew, that you had a marvelous time. I know it could have been better, but...any day on board is better than work
We had a problem last year on our cruise with the wait staff.. 1st time we ever had that problem on Carnival.. We hope the one in 21/2 weeks is much better this time... It happens I guess.. You run into a bad cruise...
