I was looking through the wine list to order a few bottles for the room. The thoughts of paying premium prices for lower price vintages worries me. I am also reluctant to pack a few bottles from my supply in my luggage as airlines have a habit of being brutal with luggage.

Ant suggestions on how to pack wine in a suitcase or can anyone tell me if the duty free shop in Ft Lauderdale airport has any wine? If I call the cruiseline as opposed to ordering online, can they tell me the vintage year?

Just as a for instance, I was looking at the Black Opal Shiraz on the wine list. $30.00. PA prices are high anyway, but I can get that here for about 12.00. I am not TOO concerned with the markup, but I want a 2001 or 2003 if I have to pay the price.

Regarding vintage - I don't think the people who take the phone orders can get down to that level of detail. The people on the ship would probably have to think about it. Bear in mind that Carnival doesn't have a dedicated wine staff aboard their ships such as one finds on Celebrity. The waiters do it.

While I'm not a wine connoisseur, Bob Dickinson, Carnival's President; is one. He started the President's Wine Club for Carnival. So while I can't be sure, I would think the wine choices would be pretty good on the ships.

You can put the wine in a ziplock plastic bag then wrap it in a towel and then another plastic bag. Or, you can use baby changing pads and tape them up and then put them in a plastic bag.

You can do it. Just use your imagination.

Rather than start another thread, here's still another alcohol question.

My friend has discovered the wonders of Rootbeer Schnapps and wants to know if they have it on board. Personally, it sounds terrible (I prefer Crown Royal on the rocks), but this is her current preferred drink. Anyone know?

Apparently it's not very common, so I'm thinking if she wants some, she's going to have to smuggle it on. She doesn't use computers, so I told her I'd ask and see if anyone knew.

I don't know about root beer schnapps however on the wine topic, I always bring a few bottles in my suit case. I fly from Canada and have never had a problem with it. I first put it in a plastic bag (Just in case) and then put it in with my cloths. Make sure the bottles are in the middle of the suit case and can not get knocked to the either side and put two layers of shirts in between. never had a problem and for the most part I always have at least 1 or 2 conections.

bring your own Schnapps. Put it in a plastic soda bottle and wrap it in a towel, then cram it in a ziplock. No problem Mon!!

She would have a much better time drinking Crown Royal on the rocks!

Although bulkier, another route you can take is to go to a wine shop or winery and purchase two-pack shippers and place them in your luggage. Again, it is bulkier than the aforementioned means, but it is also safer. I'm not sure a plastic bag would act as much of a deterrent to wine spillage if a bottle broke, simply because the broken glass would likely pierce the plastic bag...

Another way still is to pack your wine in a shipper (six pack, case) and check it with your airline. Then, carry it on to the ship, declare it, and pay the corkage fee. In doing so, you know exactly what wine you'll be enjoying and not paying premium prices for average or below average wines. Life is too short to drink below average wine!

Well, we'll be flying into Miami the day before the ship departs, so we'll likely search out a liquor store and get something to smuggle on board.

The schnapps stuff is definitely NOT for me! That's the kind of thing my friend likes -- I don't like that kind if sweet concoction at all. But some Crown Royal will definitely "turn up" in my suitcase somewhere before I board the ship. Most likely I'll just buy it in Miami rather than try to cart anything all the way from Oregon. Much easier.
